Former USWNT captain, Carli Lloyd, is not pleased with what she saw after her former teammates played out to a lifeless draw with Portugal in their final group game of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
The USA progressed at the expense of the Europeans despite the two sides settling for a goalless draw, which was enough to seal qualification for one and send the other back home.
The Netherlands topped the group after thrashing debutants, Vietnam, 7-0 in the other game, having also beaten Portugal and picked up a point from the reigning champions.
The Americans were lucky to walk away with the vital point after Portuguese striker, Ana Capeta, hit the post in the 91st minute in what could have been the winner on their maiden outing.
Lloyd berates USWNT after draw
According to Goal, it was the four-time world champions' worst group stage performance, picking up just five points from three games and failing to score in a group stage game for the first time since 2015.
However, the USWNT stars were seen dancing and grinning with fans to celebrate their qualification, but their former captain -Lloyd - was not having any of it.
"I have never witnessed something like that," she told FOX Sports. "There's a difference between being respectful of the fans and saying hello to your family, but to be dancing and to be smiling… The player of the match was that post. You're lucky not to be going home right now."
